Sodium acetate

The trihydrate sodium salt of acetic acid, which is used as a source of sodium ions in solutions for dialysis and as a systemic and urinary alkalizer, diuretic, and expectorant.

Preparation

3M NaOAc

  1. Solve Sodium acetate trihydrate 204.1g (1.5 mol) in H2O approx. 400mL.
  2. Adjust pH with acetic acid (pH 5.2)
  3. Adjust to 500 with H2O.
  4. Sterilize and store at refreigerator.
